(Note: The ideas expressed in this essay are not based on what is written in Bhagwat Geeta or other Hindu scriptures. This essay expresses what the author believes to be instructions from Lord Sri Krishna. In other words the ideas in this essay are author's interpretations of Hindu teachings as applicable to Western society today.)

As you know, Lord Sri Krishna is the one who created this whole universe. He is the one from whom we originate and to whom we return upon our death. He is the one who sustains this universe.

What does Krishna expect from us in regard to sex and love?

Krishna wants us to be responsible in regard to sex. This means we must not indulge in sex outside of marriage. A person is considered married even if he or she did not get married in a traditional way but who lives under the same roof with another person of the opposite sex. This is called common law marriage.

Krishna does not want us to look at nude pictures, be they of male or female. This is because the only nude object one is allowed to look at is that of one's wife or husband, and that too in a private setting.

Krishna does not want us to be reading stories or passages that depict sexual encounters. This is because such stories or passages corrupt our minds and divert us from the true aim of our lives which is to serve humanity in whatever way we can.

Lord Sri Krishna imparted the feelings of love and sex to men and women because without sex there can be no procreation and without procreation mankind can not be sustained.

The mutal sexual attraction between man and woman is very strong which ensures that giving birth to offsprings requires little effort. This is designed to ensure the survival of the human species.

If having sex was as difficult or uninteresting as reading a book on quantum physics, the human species would have vanished long time ago.

But Krishna wants men and women to exercise restraint and self-control and not become over indulgent in sex or to become too much preoccupied with sex.

The best sex is between a man and woman who are deeply in love. In fact sex is an expression of love.

So, Lord Krishna says that sex is fine and great especially when you engage in it with your marriage partner for the purpose of procreation.

Engaging in sex excessively for fun is discouraged by Lord Sri Krishna.

A person who excessively engages in sex for fun needs to look at other ways of having fun. The best way is to have fun is to help people who are in need or to engage in intellectual pursuits to gain knowledge.

A teenager who is studying to complete his high school is engaged in intellectual pursuits. A college student who is trying to complete his undergraduate or graduate degree is engaged in intellectual pursuits. These students should devote all their energies towards their studies and not engage in excessive sex for fun.

They should consider their academic studies to be fun. If they want to have more fun, they should undertake work helping poor people in their communities.

A person is poor even if he or she has lots of dollars or rupees but who lacks in more valuable belongings such as friends, family and spiritual knowledge.
